Eight Belles gave Derby's most valiant effort »

She suffered from running a race she was BRED - not born -
to run. I've read every Dick Francis book published and
I found his recollections of racing very entertaining.
I also got a sense of his enthusiasm, as a jockey, for the
beast as well as the competition. But not all people - and
that includes jockeys, trainers and owners of race horses -
are "saddled" with the same degree of integrity. Personally?
I don't put any sport that involves man using animals much above bear baiting. Horses don't fare much better than the
greyhounds. Sorry - but I think there is more misery, pain greed and corruption involved than anyone could imagine by viewing the gay costumes (of the people) and the deleriously happy hoisting of the winner's cup.
My in-laws were planning to watch it. My only comment before
leaving, was that I hoped none of the horses would be injured.........Well, Lo & Behold!
