I'm happy to see Hayley Wickenheiser among the great athletes. If I may add to the discussion, would Clara Hugues make it too? I mean she did win a medal in Summer Olympics AND Winter Olympics.

These guys are all overpaid wimps (except maybe #10) Here is my vote:

          http://www.everestnews2004.com/4002expcoverage/...

Everest in 11 hours. Yea that is 11,000 foot gain in alarmingly terrible terrain in 11 hours. That is tough!!!! Even lance could not do that.

The average World Class climber takes 11 hours to do 3000 feet from high camp at the the Col.

How many times was the Sherpa checked by guys 250lbs or more going 35mph?

How many diseases did they beat?

Nah, natural climatization doesn`t count for toughest athletes in the world. That`s cheating.

            Here`s my guy: Mario Lemieux

            Three Hart trophies (MVP)

Six Art Ross Trophies (leading scorer)

Two Conn Smythe Trophies (playoff MVP

            Two Stanley Cup championships

At retirement, seventh highest all-time scorer

On top of the usual injuries and risks of hockey players:

            spinal disc herniation

            Hodgkin's lymphoma

            chronic tendinitis

chronic back pain so severe that he had other people tie his skates

He retired twice because of his health: first in 1997 after battling lymphoma from which he returned to play in NHL in 2000.

Do a search on his goals and/or fights. He was the first of the warrior/sharpshooters of the NHL.

(Tiger was sick one day...what a joke!)
