Get you Head out of your AZZ, Steriods don't make you super human to hit home runs. What,,,lol,,, does it make your vision better? Or make you coordinated?.

They just make your muscles recover faster from being beat, injured , and sore.

Like " NATURAL" Andro Max which is not an Anobolic Steroid.

Hmmmm sounds fishy to me.I wouldn't believe the guy if his mouth came notorized. And for those who did use and were caught, they have made the game diluted, and generic and should be in prison for looting ticket holders of their money to see a legitamate baseball game, and for fraud.Lock em up and fine the heck out of them, they deserve it.As for Barry he stands alone as the new HOME RUN KING.And no amount of whinning will change that.

There is no proof -- legal proof-- that he used steroids, at least yet. So I guess he holds the record. But it will always be under a cloud because people will make up their own minds regardless of proof or the lack of it.

It's sort of a shame because he was a Hall of Fame player before he started hitting homers by the gazillions. One wonders how many of the line drive doubles he used to hit might have been turned into homers by steroids.

I have felt this way for a long time, not because of the homerun record, but because of, the fact of how much he has bulked up in the last few years.

Just because MLB hasn't banned steroids does not make it right! - where have our hero's gone? This is such a bad influence on young athletes.- Some of our best young athletes (High school, etc) are using steroids and don't understand the long-term effects involved. They figure if Bonds can do it, whats wrong with them doing it.

I don't think you can dismiss talent even if Bonds did use performance enhancing drugs. Most of us could take steroids and not be able to hit a ball into the outfield much less into the bleachers. We live in a cynical age.

 Congratulations Barry.

Hey, what do you want? Professional Athletics is about money, money, money. Baseball has to recognize Barry Bond's record because they, effectively, condoned the use of steroids until too late. If I was Barry Bonds, I would demand a big party with Bud Selig as MC to recognize my accomplishment and all the owners should kick in a significant amount of money for the celebration because they contributed to whole "bigger chemically is better" theme. It's interesting to see owners, ex-players, trainers come forward now that it's a bad thing. Where were all of these people when a pumped up Mark McGwire ripped the single season record?

Are you referring to the second hand "testimony" from the two "reporters" that are sitting in jail?

Or are you referring to the speculation that the trainer guy, who is not talking, will give up Bonds if they keep him jailed long enough and offer him enough goodies and threats?

Or.. will just any testimony do? If that is the case, just read some of these posts and viola! He's guilty!!! Actual proof be damned.

Oh for God's sake. Last time I checked, steroids are illegal. 'Pioneers'???? Puh-leese! That is like saying that a really good criminal (thief, bar brawler, rapist, murderer, serial killer -- take your pick) who is willing to raise the bar on his level of crime in order to 'experiment and possibly awe us' is a pioneer. The only difference is that a juicer like Bonds only hurts himself ... Until he is held up as a false hero to tons of impressionable people, especially children. Then his illegal actions effect others, and then we have a problem.

Baroid is a disgrace to the game - most players are on the down side after the reach 30-35 years. Look at his stats -once he started doing roids, he was killing the ball. He was always good, he should have played it straight and gotten in the HOF the right way - with dignity. BTW - this guy is really a jerk - his teammates don't like him - It's all about Baroid - I was watching a game a couple of weeks ago and one of his teamates hit a home run - All the guys got up and congratulated the player - Baroid - he was to busy talking to his son to even shake his hand or anything - what a jerk. His balloon head is not an illusion.

Well since everyone in sports does steroids as you claim, then it would include all the pitchers pitching to Bonds, making it a fair game I guess. So if everything is fair, would that still make Bonds a great player?

And I thought that the political threads were a bit testy!

Never in the anals of human endevor has such an achievement been wrought with so much acrimony and hyperbole that it pales in contrast to every Paris Hilton newsflash.

Folks, it's a sport. Nobody died and nobody was injured. there are far more important issues to get livid about than the allegations surrounding the cause of Mr. Bonds increase in hat size as his testicles decrease in size. Besides, as far as I can tell, if he's guilty of steroid abuse then a large majority of atheletes are probably as guilty. As John Kruk said last night on ESPN, if they go after Barry for steroids then they must also go after many more players. Welcome to the new age of the bottom line of ethical values.

In fact the best pitcher in baseball today is considered to be Johan Santana and he couldn't even hold a candle to either Koufax or Gibson. I am from Minnesota and Santana is nothing but a two-pitch pitcher, a changeup and a fastball. He can't throw a curveball and when he attempts to throw a slider, its much less than mediocre at best; whereas, Koufax threw harder, had a tremendous curveball and a much better changeup than Santana. Doesn't say too much for pitching these days especially when Santana has already won 2 Cy Youngs and should have won 3 in a row.

Could anyone of us be so brave with roids, knowing the possible frightening side-effect to mind and body chemistry? I doubt it. People who are willing to go that route are braver than I, for sure. Let's cut these guys some slack IF they want to show some pioneering spirit, experiment and, possibly awe us. Plus, IF we could allow them to be truthful, they'd contribute to science, helping us all.

Is it really cheating if Bonds took steroids? I mean, I use to bulk up with protein shakes, which made me stronger and bigger much faster than if I wasn't consuming them. And, due to the high sugar content, they were probably hurting my pancreas more than roids might hurt someone's testicles (prostate, a different story). I think that, IF someone wants to use and experiment with enhancers, LET him. For one thing, we learn more about human physiology when one is willing to experiment, and, they MIGHT awe us in a sporting event, like Bonds does for many, steroids or not.

Hank Aaron did it naturally. So did Babe Ruth (burp) and Willie Mays. I consider Barry Bond's achievement as legitimate as George Bush's presidencies. I'll assume all you jock hounds can figure out I'm being sarcastic. As far as I'm concerned Hank Aaron's record still stands and no-one has beaten it, and this country's been without a president for at least eight years, maybe more.

We're so desparate for heros in this country we're will to accept any fakir that comes down the pike.

And no I didn't make a mistake, or mispell a word.

Never happen though so we are left with these keyboard scientists who know with utmost certainty after careful study that if your head grows you will hit a ton of home runs.

If Hank Aaron had been caught using a corked bat after setting the record, then your line of thinking dictates that Hell Yea, he got away with it, the record should stand! Im old fashioned, Ill give you that...but steroid use today should have the same "reward" as Pete Rose and the team that threw the series in the 1900's got... Shame and infamy and removal from the world of legitamite sport. Now correct me if I am not understanding what you said, but please dont respond with how out of touch I am... that isnt an arguement, its a copitulation that you can't counter my arguement.

I could care less if he took performance enhancing drugs or not, he got the record and that's good enough for me.Heck Babe Ruth was probably drunk when he got his record, and some play better that way, lmao.Who knows if he cheated in any way back then.Besides Alex is going to beat this record anyway in a few years and Bond's record will be forgotten. It still takes eye co-ordination and timing to hit a baseball no matter how strong you are. Babe Ruth was no Barry Bonds in stature and size but he still managed 715 HR. or was it 714.See, already forgot. Hank Aaron is still the MAN, he deserved a lot better than what he got from MLB and those ignorant race haters.

Yessir Dirtybull! A couple of hacks with an axe to grind put a lot of BS into a book and all of a sudden everyone "knows" that Bonds does/did steroids. No proof, just speculation. "His head has grown!" they'll yell, but medically that's rather silly. Lots of people lose their youthful sleekness for a beefed up look quite naturally. I am one of them. Look at Magic Johnson. How many of you posters in your 40's and fifties still weigh and look the same as you did in your twenties?

Until there is PROOF, he should be considered innocent. That is the American way, that is the fair way. Besides that, there is no known chemical, NONE, NADA, that can give a person the amazing hand eye coordination required to put that little cylinder of wood flush on the sweet spot of a 95 MPH fastball.

CONGRATULATIONS BARRY!!!

Well most peoples heads do not get bigger! Regardless read "Game of Shadows". The writers of this book went to jail in order to reveal grand jury testimony that would never have gotten out otherwise. Barry said last night "this record is not tainted". Sure it is, he says he never knowingly used steroids but may have unknowingly done so. Don't you think if he was rubbing flaxseed oil onto himself he would look into the effects and realize he was getting a whole lot more benefit from the cream he was using? He had to have noticed results everyone else did. Either way it's tainted. His trainer is in jail for refusing to talk. Victor Conte from Balco was jailed for distributing steroids. So far Barry is the only one to walk away clean.

Other than Ruth and Maris everyone who has hit over 60 is a suspect and for good reason. Sosa blew up physically just like Bonds and McGwire.

You give very, VERY weak anecdotal evidence but offer no proof.

Alex Rodriguez uses steriods because he's talented and has a physique that you and most of us don't have? Wait, wait, I taped a pair of wings to my back so now I can fly. See how the logic doesn't quite follow?

How about Ken Griffey Jr.? Is he juiced because he's hit 589 HR? Really, think about it. Without his injuries he'd be at close to 700 HR. But he's juiced too, right?

Please don't disparage the talents of athletes because you feel your talent is inferior. Please don't say that everyone cheats because you would if you could. Please don't disparage other's efforts because you would like to feel superior to them or others.

The preceeding also goes for all of you who are saying Bonds is a hack. He's not. You know it, we all know it. No matter what he may have done or not done, he is still a talented athlete. Steroids can't substitute for natural ability.

Bonds is a very good player. To have played as long as he has and had the success that he has is without question the sign of a gifted athlete.

Do I believe that he has used steroids over the past several years? Yes.

However, the fact remains that even without the performance enhancers he is a great athlete who has insane natural talent. Anyone that can hit a baseball at all, no matter how far, has a talent that 99.99% of the rest of us can only imagine.

I give Bonds his props now, because the reality is in 10 years or so Alex Rodriguez will be passing Bond's record. Heck, if Ken Griffey Jr. can stay healthy he still has an outside chance of passing Bond's record.

I'm still waiting for some scientific proof, the kind that would hold up in a court of law, that Bonds used steroids. All I've heard so far is "you can tell, just look at the size of his head for christ sakes!". Thats proof?? Another is his stats, they seem to have gotten better with age, wow now there's proof if you need it. Might as well tell some kid who averages twenty home runs a year that if he ever hits more than fifty a year he will be banned for steroid use even if he passes his tests.

I agree with you. But until it is proven, he is innocent. It amazes though that because his body type has changed, he's doing steriods. Is Barry Bonds the only African American player whose body type has changed during his career? Magic Johnson got bigger and heavier as he got older but no one accused him of using steriods. And these pitchers (I heard more than one was using steriods) who pitched to Bonds, has anyone accused them of tainting Bonds' record? And the media amazes me. Because Bonds won't speak to them, they put words in his mouth and make up things. Which is the reason he doesn't talk to them anymore. Bonds has said that he's saying no comment because the media prints what it wants no matter what he says. And the kicker, has anyone including the media ever stop to think what this talk does to his family, especially his kids? No one cares for the truth, just what sells stories and news items.

Neither one matches Babe Ruth - they didn't have steroids then

and he was the single best player to ever play the game. He was also a very good pitcher for 8-10 years BEFORE the Yankees

got him and moved him to 1b/outfield so he could play more often. Hank Aaron was given the pleasure of being a designated hitter - just to run up the total. Had Ruth been playing every day instead of pitching every fourth or fifth game, Aaron and Bonds wouldn't have to worry - they would have never been able to match his numbers - drugs and/or designated hitter, it would still have been impossible.

I know Bonds has the numbers, but they don't mean much anymore because of how he got those numbers. In a way, it's kinda sad - he is a good player; just got caught up in the thinking like Santa - EVERYONE DOES STEROIDS - look what this quaint American thought process cost us!!! Get high and watch something else - baseball has been ruined.

I just wanted to point out that maybe the results were the consequence of some other factor, because I don't want to think that we still live in a state of some racism, but we do. I just hope when it comes down to it, that poll was not the result of it.

Anyway, thanks for the argument, it's nice to see someone still recognises one of our country's problems and is willing to call us out on it.

Until our next meeting =).

Even with everyone "knowing" he was on something didn't change public opinion.

It's all good man. I don't consider myself better than you in any way (except I'm a little better than you in stats) because I don't even know you. I apologize if I came across as being pompous, and, re-reading my posts has made me realize where you are coming from in that regard. I came on here to justify my point in a civilized manner, and I'm sorry if I strayed from my objective. It's just some previous people have made some rather unruly comments and I apologize that the past has affected my dispute with you. I recognize that racism is still a serious problem in this country, but don't be so quick to label things as such, because often times you will get the boy-who-cried-wolf effect. Thank you for staying civil, even though I hadn't completely.

So all those fat, lumpy pitchers (Bobby Jenks) and skinny geeky pitchers (Randy Johnson) are on steroids? And your proof is because ONE pitcher is on steroids, ergo EVERYONE is on steroids? Fascinating illogic.

Also, your concept of pitching in Aaron's era is hysterically wrong. Did you realize MLB lowered the height of the mound after 1968? Why? Because the commissioner determined that the PITCHERS HAD AN UNFAIR ADVANTAGE. So during most of Hank Aaron's career (1954-1976), he was effectively handicapped by the higher mound.

Sound to me like Bonds' home run record deserves TWO asterisks. One, for the lower mound, the other for being a total steroid and HGH abuser.

Randy

and again I answer - Armstrong has been tested for drugs and steroids more than any athlete in history. All those tests were negative and thus he is clean of steroid use. Bonds on the other hand is the most suspect of all current athletes of using steroids.

What Armstrong has as shown by medical tests is lungs and lung capacity larger than normal for his size. Endurance sports like bike racing require more and/or better use by the body of oxygen. Though different than normal all medical reports indicate that increased ability and size in Armstrong is natural and not drug enduced.

Armstrong won nearly 100 stages of the Tour De France and each stage winner is tested. In addition there are random tests during the race of many riders and tests at non competative times. Armstrong passed every test and you can see his body is not different than others as you find with people like Bonds.

Anyone who can pass that many tests is clean and that is what Armstrong is the most proven clean for drugs athlete in history. That is why he is celebrated and Bonds isn't since Bonds has only his say so to prove him clean.

In case you didn't know this, Mark Maguire did break a record for most home runs in a season. He had enormous support from everyone until his Congressional hearing where he "refused to talk about the past." After that, his fan club dispersed and he lost practically all his support from both black and whites. Believe it or not, most people see players for how they play and conduct themselves, not for the color of their skin.

I also love how people are claiming they know whether Bonds could hit off pitchers from past decades. You don't know that anymore than how to analyze a poll. And with regards to your comment, "So you're saying Bonds didn't work hard?"

If someone studies hard for a test enough to get an 85, but they want an "A", so they cheat off the guy next to them to get a 94%, they're still a cheater and any teacher would give them a 0 regardless of how har they worked.

Please do your best to comprehend this analogy.

The pitchers were better back then, the parks were a lot larger, further to hit a home run back then, made them smaller cause fans like to see homers, and maybe space, they play longer seasons now who knows, in my opine, Bonds has no record in my eyes, except the amazing expanding hat size, besides he has and always will be an arrogant sob.

Baseball is not, I REPEAT IS NOT AMERICA"S FAVORITE PAST time in relation to sports. I only wish you stupid fans would realize you created these a holes by continuing to support them, I gave up baseball after the last strike, and I have never watched another game. Barry Bonds your out!!! Oh one another thing, Why does Mark McGuire look so old now? hmmmm something tells me his body is getting back at him for all those chemicals he ingested.

Just because a statistic appears to be explained one way doesn't make it true. There are a plethora of different factors that go into polling and its results. I'm not saying that some of the white population doesn't like Barry Bonds because he is black, but most of them don't want to see him break the record because they view what he did as cheating and they don't want to see the record books of the game they love tarnished by someone they consider a cheater.

Maybe if you actually look at the world critically and don't jump to the first conclusion that pops in your head, you could understand there could be underlying factors that affect data.

Statistics are a little bit more complex than, "oooo ooo numbers!"

I already explained the disparity. More black people want him to win because he is black, not white people want him to lose because he is black. He has more support from the black community because he is a black making big strides in a sport that is mostly white.

There is nothing inconsistent about my statements. If Mark Maguire were breaking the record, there would be minimal support from both sides. If you haven't figured it out, due to racial segregation and other bars put on blacks throughout time in a sport as old as baseball, the record books and hall of fame are predominatly whites. The black community, as it should, openly supports its members making important and historical marks, like Barry Bonds breaking this record. Being in the black community is something that is celebrated amongst them and I think their unity is reflected somewhat in that poll.

Whether or not ARod has partaken of steroids is anyone's guess. He was however on the same Texas team in 1998( he hit 58 homers I believe) with another notorious non-steroid user, Rafael Palmeiro(56 homers, I think).

Believe what you want, but my belief is that not only did most players use enhancements of some kind in the mid 90's(post 94s strike era)until 2002, or so(testing started), but MLB knew it and allowed it. They wanted the fans back at the park. Money trumps all in business.

There was a guy in my High School graduating class who at the ripe old age of 17 was throwing a consistent 92 mph fastball (clocked), and on occasion he went slightly higher than that. He also had a devastating curveball, and knew all the old school pitches: knuckle, slider, screwball and sinker. No one in the entire area could touch him.

Here are some things to consider:

1. Shoeless Joe Jackson was not only a better ballplayer than Bonds, he was a better human being. The fact that he turned in the money he was offered proved that [And when the White Sox finally won the World Series a couple years back, Jackson was finally able to come home and rest. Not that the 'Field of Dreams' was not a home, if you understand the meaning of the movie].

2. Aaron and Marris competed and made their records the right way. 715 and 61 were done the old fashioned way...with hard work.

3. Here is a partial list of pitchers of the past modern era [60's and 70's] that Bonds could not hit even if he had a corked bat: Don Drysdale, Bob Gibson, Sandy Koufax, Tom Seaver, Al Downing, Whitey Ford, Dean Chance, Mickey Lolich, Jim Lonborg, Al Jackson, Jim Kaat, Steve Carlton, Jim Palmer, Jim 'Mudcat' Grant, Catfish Hunter, Nolan Ryan, Jim McAndrew, Tug McGraw, Ron Guidry, Don Cardwell, Wade Blasingame, J. R. Richard and a ton of others.

No skippy it isn't naive to state what is clearly a fact! The majority of those who play sports do so for the love of the game and neither use drugs nor have any desire to do so.

You claim the opposite is true, but you offer nothing to support your claim other than they make millions of dollars annually. While it is true that some major league baseball players make such sums the majority make far less and if you look at the minors they make far less than that! The same applies to all of the other major sports leagues. Then there are the tens of thousands who play college and high school ball and the millions who simply get together for scratch games on any given week night or weekend.

It seems that as far as you are concerned any form of cheating is permissible if that is what it takes to win and all I can say is that I thank the gods that be that you and your ilk are a very small minority!
