"They were jumping on our car for five minutes, they were asking for our mobile phones and stabbed our driver," one witness said.
Sounds more like "Ghetto Youths", as we are instructed to call them. Hasn't so much to do with Sports.

There were 300 fans at a Women's Volleyball match? That has to be a world record.
I think the key point was the fact the fans came to the match because of the fight, not for the sport. That's a shame right there. A damn crying shame. It wasn't even BEACH volleyball!

Maybe they should have an event within an event. Buy tickets for the game.....or pay extra for tickets to watch the brawl!
As soon as those gals start playing topless or bottomless, they will really generate some crowds.

I am not sure if that makes the driver in front of you an idiot but i'm pretty sure it makes you malicious mf.
As for Dummies it will be interesting to know that Greeks have some of the highest iq in the world . I have taught physics at Stanford and can tell you for sure that the 17-18 yr old high school kids taking exams for university entrance are scoring better in math, physics, chemistry than 18-19 yr old pre med or engineering students that are already accepted at Stanford.
That said there are elements of the population that are plain worthless punks and criminals much like in any society that is not heavily policed. The key reason for that is that previous socialist governments there trying to entice the leftists weakened the structure and regulations/laws available to police forces that are so effective here in the US for example in enforcing fear to the average citizen at the sight of police.
The miserable event is a disgrace for modern Greece but shared by most of Europe.

The news provided on this event are poor:
All those guys where hooligans, and they went there JUST AND ONLY to fight each other (remember the film "Fight Club"?). In every European country this is a major problem (remember the Hazel Stadium in Belgium). And those hooligans never entered the voley-arena: The fight happend few miles away, on a meeting-point! In other countries (Britain, Germany, Sweden etc)they arrange meetings even outside city, in fields and forests just to fight! We don't do this in Greece (yet...). I hope that someday the distant planet USA will make contact with the planet Earth. It is amazing how dis-informed are the US citizens! I have to remind you the child (or school) crimes in US. We don't have this in Europe. Answering the friend KYRed I think that he (surelly) have seen much more traffic stupids in US. BUT have he (as an Army-man) any idea how stupid (not mention criminal...) acting have the US army-men around the world when they go to the bars?

"It is amazing how dis-informed are the US citizens!"
Yes, it is. The internet is helping to inform us however. Our T.V. News is a joke and most all of us know it. Clowns from Ringling Bros. are chosen at random to have their faces scrubbed down in order to read the politically correct "news". Newspapers here are controlled by wealthy developmentally disabled individuals. Sometimes it's almost funny.

Thank you!
It is amazing how the "strong people" managed to isolate US people from the rest of the planet.
The most peculiar was the "internet cut-off" the days after 9/11! And this was enforced all over the globe, but with a 1-2 days delay: The first hours we (outside US) were learning things you never heard and which (things) muted from the next day! The most reliable news-chanell in Greece said -only the first day, never said it again!- about an article published in the French "Liberation" or "Figaro" I don't remember, that few weeks before 9/11 their reporter went to a hospital in the Golf with an information that Osama bin Laden was there (kidney problem). What a surprise! Osama was there! And he had a visitor: A CIA agent was leaving the room just the moment the reporter was going! (in those countries the reporters know a lot of "strange" people). And in the article was wondering about the relation between Osama and US Gov. !!!

Earthlover, I agree with you too!
Please don't misunderstand me: I don't blame US people, but ONLY US polititians.
Foreign trups around the world?
I'll ask you to make some "homework": Open a world-map and locate the countries that have trups or military bases outside their teritory: I did it (but don't trust me... do it yourself) and found only those four:
USA, UK, FRANCE (very few) and Rusia (very few).
I exclude the "peace-maker" trups of the U.N. missions even if they are -always- controled from US Gov. Greece have very few trups in this role (engineers: they build infrastructures) in 2 or 3 countries, including Afganistan. Greek people protest strongly against this partitipation but our Gov have to obey to the stronger US Gov (US politians need to show that all the Gov's around the globe stand by them).
Anyway, this is just history: The strongs make the rules. Now is USA, tommorow will be China.
Your children will have the same problems with my children.
