I was at my dad's this weekend and we watched most of the 3rd & 4th round of this tourney. It was fun seeing the pros have trouble with this course. Bay Hill always plays tough, but for some reason it was especially difficult this year.
These guys have gotten so damn good that, with the exception of the majors, they get very few real tests of their skills each year. It would be nice if the regular tour stops yeilded winning scores only a stroke or two under par, instead of like 20 under. As a hack golfer (18 handicap) I would watch a lot more golf on tv if the pros were in trouble more often - hitting out of the bushes and stuff like that. Tee-to-fairway-to-green gets pretty boring after a while (and they show WAY too much putting).

I wonder if Tiger received an appearance fee from Arnold Palmer. Tiger believes that because of his importance to PGA golf he should be paid to appear at the PGA sponsored events. This dispute has been raging for a few years now. He has threatened to start up his own tour. I wonder what all the other professional golfers really think about Tiger receiving an appearance fee. When Tiger played in DuBai, he received an appearance fee of well over a million dollars. Nobody else on the tour gets an appearance fee.

It is also uncommon for any of the European Tour events to give appearance fees.

I was there in one of the Executive Business tents, and i'll say this... The course is naturally tough, but it was extra hard with the strong gusts of wind that were blowing unpredictably all day. Also, Tiger lives across the lake from the course, so I don't think he got an appearance fee.

"Singh has been coming to Bay Hill for 15 years. He had left with nothing but three runner-up finishes and plenty of heartache." It was a long time coming for Vijay Singh.

I wonder how much Tiger has received from the PGA. I also wonder if Tiger would receive $85 million per year if it weren't for the PGA. I find it rather amusing that over 650,000 people showed up at the Phoenix Open which set an attendance record without Tiger.

I would suggest that Tiger is quite adequately compensated. When will it become a question of how much is too much? A million just to show up in Dubai? What if he starts demanding appearance fees here in the States? He has every event promoter at his beck and call. And if he chooses not to play your event there go at least half your revenues and profits. Remember that most of these events are charity driven. So it isn't just the tournament itself that is affected.
I hope someone steps up this year and gives him a serious challenge. Perhaps Vijay can finally out two majors together in a year. The game needs that much more than it needs Tiger's continued dominance. In any business, slow steady growth is preferable to sudden growth based on a single commodity.

Tiger has already requested appearance fees in the U.S. That is the reason why he only appears in about 15 tournaments per year in the U.S., mostly because he is required to do so with his huge contracts with Nike and Buick; otherwise, he probably wouldn't appear at all. The majors are not considered PGA events.

I would also love to see a real contender to Tiger because sometimes he is such a strong frontrunner the tournaments are just boring. Plus, it seems a lot of people just fold when Tiger is in the lead. That said, he is an awesome golfer and I don't resent him making big bucks anymore than I resent any sports figure or celebrity making big bucks. I actually think he has handled it very well, and comes across as a very mature individual in his interviews. He's only a few more successful years away from becoming the best ever.

Golf is one of the few sports where the old guys can still beat the young ones.

This is the second time in several weeks that Tiger refused to give an interview after he finished his poor play.... This is his MO and pretty Sad when a Man of his talent cannot Treat the Sports Writers, Fans and especially the thousands of Volunteers who make it all work with a little Respect for all their individual efforts.
Tiger's contributions to Golf are well respected, however, whether he realizes it or Not, Tiger is NOT Bigger than the Game Of Golf itself.
'OH, I didn't play Perfect Golf and WIN this week so I'll take my Clubs and Go Home', Pretty Immature....
There are a lot of Great Players who are truly all around professionals, Arnold, Gary, Jack, Chi Chi, Bob Murphy, Bob Charles, Floyd, Lee, Ioake, Doug Sanders, Tom Watson, etc... These are the Gentleman and Players that made the Tour what it is Today...
Mr. Woods Can Take his attitude and Clubs a Go Play On the EURO Tour.. The Golf Tour Will Do Just Fine...
Tiger, It's Only A Game.....
Sincerely,

I have followed Tiger's career pretty closely and it is VERY unusual for him to not give an interview, even after he's had a bad round. Despite being the absolute best on earth at what he does he is almost always approachable and genuine, and he talks about his game with an objectivity and humor hardly ever seen in sports.
He declines an interview and all of a sudden he has an attitude? Please. Ever hear of Barry Bonds? How about Bill Parcells? I could spend all day listing athletes who are true A$$HOLES - never giving interviews or signing autographs (unless there is some money in it for them).
Tiger is not one of them.

I agree with endofdays.
Tiger not givng and interview, quite unusual. He is one of the best at giving interviews and because he missed on is not reason to shoot him down.
